Born in Birmingham, Alabama and raised in Biloxi, Mississippi, Monroe received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Advertising with a minor in Marketing from the University of Alabama. He was actively involved as a student-athlete and lettered multiple years in football. He played for Alabama Crimson Tide from 1988 to 1991.

Upon graduation from the University of Alabama, he immediately began his working career as an insurance salesman with Liberty National Insurance in Birmingham. Monroe’s career with Hughes Supply began in 1993. During his 13.5-year career with Hughes, he worked in several different areas of the Company. He was selected to participate in the Management Trainee Program. Upon completion of this program, he was promoted to the Sales and Marketing Department and then transferred to the Vendor Development Department. He was named Corporate Liaison for the Office of the President and ended his career with Hughes as Director of Corporate Citizenship where he is responsible for government relations, administration of the Hughes Supply Foundation, Hughes Supply Family Fund and oversees the Company’s community relations activities.

While in Orlando, FL during his career with Hughes, Monroe was an active member of the American Marketing Association, Florida Citrus Sports, Greater Orlando Leadership Foundation, Leadership Orlando, Downtown Development Board for the City of Orlando, Board of Governors for the Orlando Regional Chamber of Commerce, Advisory Council for the United Negro College Fund, Board of Directors for both Universal Orlando and Downtown Boys & Girls Clubs, Orlando Regional Corporate Volunteer Council, Historical Society of Central Florida, City of Orlando Mayor’s Education Action Council, Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Commission and the I-4 Downtown Design Review Committee.

Monroe’s career with Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center began in April 2007 as the Director of Public Affairs. In that role, he led government affairs and community relations efforts in building good corporate citizenship for the property in the Washington, DC Metro Area. He quickly became an active supporter for tourism by serving on the Prince George’s Community College Executive Advisory Board for Hospitality and Tourism Institute, Executive Committee Member on the Maryland Hotel Lodging Association, Prince George’s County Conventions and Visitor Bureau, Prince George’s County Community Foundation Board and appointed by the Governor to the Maryland Tourism Development Board. He is a graduate of Leadership Prince George’s County, Leadership Greater Washington and Leadership Maryland.

As of July 2021, Monroe is excited to bring his nearly 30-years of corporate public affairs experience to G. S. Proctor & Associates. G. S. Proctor & Associates is the largest minority-owned and operated firm in Maryland, consistently ranked among the Top 10 lobbyists in the state.

In his spare time, he enjoys attending cultural events, salt-water fishing, golfing, and collecting memorabilia from various social events.
