MACo Party

This year’s MACo Summer Conference in Ocean City felt like a return to a pre-pandemic era.

It was great to see so many of Maryland’s leaders in one place, fellowshipping and sharing ideas. The G.S. Proctor & Associates team had many productive meetings with our esteemed clients and decision-makers from all over the region. Business and civic leaders from Charles County, Prince George’s County, Howard County and the District of Columbia discussed subjects ranging from the future of energy, transportation and economic development to development opportunities for minority communities and education.

G.S. Proctor & Associates Vice President Trey Proctor, Senior State Associate Sherrie Sims, Chief Operating Officer Charlita Proctor, Government Relations Assistant Tatiana Alston and Associate Monroe Harrison were among those who traveled east for this important event.

We are extremely grateful to be partners in elevating our local institutions and communities and in promoting Maryland to a position of leadership, not only economically but also with regard to public safety, education and housing.

For the 600+ people who shared Thursday evening with us at our annual MACo Party, we are grateful to call you all friends and partners in these endeavors. The conversation and friendship were amazing, and the food and open bar didn’t hurt.

Thanks so much to Taphouse on 45th and our partner, Mayson-Dixon Companies, for another successful event and many many thanks to our sponsors for helping to make the event the success that it was. A very special thanks also to our next governor and lieutenant governor of this great State, Wes Moore and Aruna Miller, for attending along with a host of state and county leaders from all over Maryland.

And a special thanks to all the sponsors of the MACo Party, including Comcast, Pepco, Washington Gas, Velocity Capital, The Traffic Group, National Aquarium, Pevarnik Bros, Inc., Morris & Ritchie Associates, Inc., Westside Partners, LLC, Pride of Baltimore II, Modern Builders – A Mayson-Dixon Company and Modern Suppliers – A Mayson-Dixon Company.

We were excited to have members of our team in Denver this week for the National Conference of State Legislatures.

The event represents the nation’s largest bipartisan gathering of state legislators and their staff. It offers attendees the opportunity to engage in unique conversations about mutual policy priorities and the legislative landscape.

Vice President Trey Proctor and Associate Robert Glidewell traveled out west for the event, which was also attended by a large contingent of state and local legislators from D.C., Maryland and Virginia, as well as leaders from local businesses and nonprofit organizations.

The summit featured extensive sessions on the workforce staffing challenges that government agencies are facing, with a focus on how to develop more flexible remote work policies to better retain state workers in a tight labor market. Additional topics included supply chain and inflation-related challenges and their impact to state budgets.

G.S. Proctor & Associates, along with our sponsors BGE, WGL and Nuclear Powers Maryland, also hosted a well-attended cigar reception for the local contingent to thank them for taking the time to attend the summit and for their commitment to serving our communities.

It was a highly productive week, an opportunity to discuss the challenges facing our region and our nation, and to meet with and learn from thoughtful, dedicated leaders from coast to coast.

Members of the G.S. Proctor team had a wonderful time attending Melwood’s 2022 Ability Awards last week. This special event honors individuals, employers, researchers, policymakers and companies that have advanced the field of employment for people with disabilities and injured veterans.

Associate Jeanette Tejeda de Gomez and Director of Strategic Partnerships Joe Green attended the event, held at the Top of the Hill Banquet & Conference Center in Washington, D.C. They left inspired by the amazing people they met and the incredible stories of overcoming challenges and achieving dreams.

WUSA 9 anchor Allison Seymour served as the master of ceremonies, and Taryn Mackenzie Williams, Assistant Secretary of Labor for Disability Employment Policy, delivered a powerful keynote address.
